In brief
Sent abroad as an infant after 1016, raised at the courts of Kiev and Hungary, married Agatha there. Edward the Confessor recalled him in 1054 to settle the succession; he landed in 1057 and died on 19 August before he had seen the king. Buried at Old St Paul's.
